Fish in Batter Recipe

For the Fish:

  • Fish fillets – 1 kg (any white fish like cod, haddock, or tilapia)
  • Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt – to taste
  • Spices – your choice, such as paprika, garlic powder, or fish seasoning

For the Batter:

  • Eggs – 2, medium
  • Mineral water (sparkling) – 1 cup (300 ml)
  • Flour – 1.5 cups
  • Salt – to taste
  1. Prepare the Fish:
    • Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels.
    • Season the fillets with salt, spices, and lemon juice. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Make the Batter:
    • In a bowl, beat the eggs lightly.
    • Add mineral water to the beaten eggs and whisk together.
    • Gradually sift in the flour, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Season with salt. The consistency should be smooth, slightly thicker than pancake batter.
  3. Fry the Fish:
    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep skillet to 180°C (356°F). The oil should be deep enough to cover the fish pieces.
    • Dip each fish fillet into the batter, ensuring it’s well-coated.
    • Carefully place the battered fish in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. Depending on the size of your pan, you may need to do this in batches to avoid crowding the pan.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the fish from the oil and drain on paper towels.
    • Serve the fish hot, with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or your choice of dipping sauce.
